About Maax
A
Canadian enterprise
Initially founded under the name of Modern Fiberglass Inc. in 1969,
MAAX quickly evolved into a publicly owned corporation with its head
office being located in Sainte-Marie de Beauce, Quebec, Canada.
MAAX began its operations in 1970 as a manufacturer of fiberglass
snowmobile parts. In 1973, the founder and current president of MAAX,
Placide Poulin, successfully diversified the Company into the production
of fiberglass bathtubs and showers. Seven years later, Modern Fiberglass
Inc. decided to devote itself exclusively to the manufacture of
bathroom products.
Unbounded expansion
In 1986, a new assembly plant called Acrylica was built to produce
bathtubs equipped with whirlpool and air massage systems, as well as
showers and tub showers. By this time, Acrylica and Modern Fiberglass
Inc. were making solid names for themselves in markets in eastern
Canada and the seven New England states.
MAAX comes into being
A year later, in a move made in order to allow it to sustain its rapid
rate of growth, the Company was listed on the Montreal Stock Exchange. The
name "MAAX" was coined by combining the first letter of the
plants Modern, Archimède and Acrylica – with a
final X being added to represent the anticipated future growth of the
business. And, the Company’s mission was defined: "To design,
develop, manufacture and distribute quality bathroom fixtures." A
permanent Research and Development Center was created to uphold the
Company’s commitment to high quality and innovative design.
Unbounded expansion
In 1992, the Company was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and
proceeded with a second public offering of common shares. During the same
year, Axam was created, a division specialized in shower kits and
shower doors, and a little later the Company inaugurated its first
distribution center in Ontario.
In the years that would follow, MAAX would make several important
strategic acquisitions allowing it to expand its product line and
providing it with a solid base from which to cover U.S. and western
Canadian markets.
In the top 6 in North America
Today, over 2,300 persons are proud to call themselves MAAX
employees. With 20 plants and 8 distribution centers located
throughout the North American continent, MAAX has become the largest
manufacturer of bathroom products and fixtures in Canada and the sixth
largest in the U.S. and MAAX continues to enjoy strong growth. |
