How
Do I Size My Bathroom Vent? What Is CFM And How Do I Calculate It?
CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute. It is a measurement
used to rate a fans ability to change the air in a room. It is
recommended by the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) that the air inside a
bathroom be changed 8 times per hour. This allows for a simple CFM
calculation:
Room Volume (L x W x H) x 8 air changes per hour / 60 minutes per Hour =
CFM required
Example: Bathroom Size = 10'L x 8'W x 8'H = 640 ft³
640 x 8 air changes per hour = 5120 ft³ air changes / hour
5120 / 60 minutes per hour = 85.33 ft³ air changes / minute
CFM Required = 85.33 |
